Case study – Advertising campaign
Combat Stress is the leading charity specialising in the care of British Veterans who have been profoundly traumatised by harrowing experiences during their Service career. They wanted to create an advert for national press that focused on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We didn't want to focus on an image of a soldier so we developed a theme with CS staff around a very simple but symbolic item, a solders helmet being cast away. The design and photography was carried out by Abbey Solutions. The campaign was a huge success creating funds and interest in the work of this important national charity.
Case study 2 Buy our Heroes a Drink Campaign
The British Forces Foundation is the only charity in the UK that helps boost the morale of serving personnel in the Armed Forces by putting on concerts and shows at the frontline including Afghanistan, with top named stars such as Katherine Jenkins and James Blunt giving their time for free and travelling out to frontline forward bases. As part of the BFF's endeavours to bring the public and the troops closer together a new campaign was launched in 2010 called Buy our Heroes a Drink. In December 2010 23,000 drinks vouchers were distributed to the troops overseas as well as a further 23,000 coffee vouchers enabling each soldier to exchange it for a free drink. It was a small gesture, a pat on the back if you like, after spending 6 months in a hostile environment. Abbey was asked to develop a strategy to broaden the campaign so the public could get involved and the charity could raise the profile of its work. We set about recruiting the support of the UKs leading media companies that own advertising space on roadsides, in cinemas, health clubs, and on trains. Within a month we had the pledges of 5 major companies like Clear Channel the world's largest advertising company. They all gave us free advertising space and print. The adverts which we helped to design gave out a text number so the public could get involved and donate the equivalent of a pint of beer, 3 pounds. The campaign that was launched in December 2010 and would have cost in excess of 150,000 pounds. Abbey secured this for free. We also recruited the support of 8 major breweries and one major coffee chain. Hundreds of pubs are involved and this number increases weekly. The campaign will run until Easter 2011.
Our Achievements:
Free advertising worth 150,000- 200,000 pounds sterling
8 breweries on-board providing free drinks covering thousands of pubs and bars across the UK
1 major coffee chain covering hundreds of coffee bars across the UK
Free magazine advertising
Free advertising in major premier league football matches and Rugby programmes
Hundreds of pubs engaging with the campaign, collecting money
Major sports events backing the campaign including the Grand National
Our International Support - Not just UK
We have worked with NGOs in India, Bosnia & Herzegovina, China and Eastern Europe, supporting them with their external communications, website design, SEO strategy and identifying/improving messages with key decision makers and stakeholders.
